Pull Quotes Podcast

By Lidia Abraha and Michal Stein

When, on October 8 2018, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report was released, news of irreversible damage to the earth dominated the headlines. Back in 2016, 181 countries signed the Paris Accord, making a commitment to curb the global rise of temperatures at 2 degrees Celsius. The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found that, in fact, things were much worse. Its prognosis?  We have 12 years to save the planet, and our new commitment should be 1.5 degrees celsius.

In this episode, we talk to Kyra Butterworth, senior online editor at the RRJ who covers climate change reporting. This week she worked on a story on IPCC scientists reacting to news coverage on the report. Listen to Kyra with us on Pull Quotes sharing what she learned and how journalists can improve their climate change coverage.

This podcast featured Kyra’s interview with Ivan Semeniuk, a science reporter for the Globe and Mail.
